Doctor Head's World Tower!!!

The third and final studio from the Flipper's Guitar, Doctor Head's World Tower! The name of the album is in refence to the 1968 satirical (and somewhat controversial) biopic featuring the members of the band "The Monkees". The film is a whimsical protrayal of the realisation of the fabricated world the pop stars exist in and the negative effects this has on the members. Generally this album reflects the same ideas; since the Flipper's Guitar found themselves in similar popular success and had already been known for their influence from 60s pop. However the big influence from this album would be the booming "Madchester" scene, such as bands like The Stone Roses and The Happy Mondays, and this album transports the club sound from the UK to the record stores of Shibuya. The band's style can even be seen to be influenced by this scene, wearing sports sweaters, bucket hats and baggy trousers.

Tracklist

1 - Dolphin Song

The song name is in itself reference to the theme song from the aforementioned film "Head"'s main theme named Porpoise Song. It's very fitting - given the band named themselves after some dolphins. The track starts off with a sample from the end of the Beach Boy's "God Only Knows", which then follows into another sample of the extended mix of Strawberry Switchblade's "Trees and Flowers" whilst they sing the lyrics to the melody of Buffalo Springfield's "Broken Arrow".

2 - Groove Tube

This psychedelic dance track is paying tribute to cornerstone songs of the scene, such as "Fool's Gold" and "One Love" by The Stone Roses and Andrew Weatherall's mix of "Loaded" by Primal Scream. The music video also embraces the psychedelic feel of the acid house scene. This song also samples multiple songs, such as the famous amen break, "Out of Limits" by The Ventures and "Flash, Bam, Pow" by The Electric Flag (soundtrack from the 1967 film "The Trip"). The single cover art features a typeface very reminiscent to the poster from this film also.

3 - Aquamarine

A straight psychedelia song, drawing a strong similarity to My Bloody Valentine's "Don't Ask Why".

4 - Going Zero

5 - (Spend Bubble Hour In Your) Sleep Machine

6 - Winnie-The-Pooh Magcup Collection

7 - The Quizmaster

8 - Blue Shinin' Quick Star

9 - The World Tower
